From three people, usually yes, and the gap widens with the size of the group. For one or two travellers a hotel room is often cheaper, unless you are staying several weeks, where monthly villa rates change the picture.

Canggu, by a wide margin, followed by Seminyak and Ubud. Uluwatu has fewer but larger ones, and Sanur and Nusa Dua are the quieter family options.
For July, August and the end-of-year weeks, months ahead: the good villas in the popular areas go early. Outside those periods, a few weeks is usually enough.
