A ridge above the valley lined with guesthouses and small hotels facing the rice terraces and Mount Agung beyond. The concentration of stays here is why most people mean Tabola when they say Sidemen.

Further up the valley, where a handful of European artists settled in the 1930s for the same view that still draws people today. Fewer stays than Tabola, and noticeably quieter.

The valley floor itself, where daily life continues around rice farming and weaving rather than around visitors. Guesthouses here are simpler and cheaper than the ridge above.

One or two nights covers it for most people: enough for a walk through the terraces and a clear-morning view of Mount Agung, without the pace of Ubud or the coast.
Sidemen is quieter, smaller and built almost entirely around rice terraces and the view of Agung. Ubud has far more restaurants, shops and things to do, and suits a longer stay.
Within Tabola or the village, short walks work. Moving between them, or up towards Iseh, the roads are steep and narrow: most visitors use a scooter or a driver.
Usually forty-five minutes to an hour by car, which makes it a realistic day trip or a one-night add-on to an Ubud stay.
