The older resort end of Sanur, closest to Denpasar, where several of the long-running beachfront hotels sit. Convenient rather than exciting: the point of staying here is proximity, not nightlife.

The stretch along Jalan Danau Tamblingan and the paved beachfront path that runs the length of Sanur. Cafés, dive shops and small hotels sit a few minutes from the sand, and the flat, car-free path makes this the easiest part of Bali to walk or cycle along the water.
Skip it if: you are looking for nightlife: Sanur is known for closing early.
The southern end of Sanur, near the lagoon and the harbour the fast boats leave from. Villas and guesthouses rather than hotel towers, and the quietest evenings in Sanur.

It is usually the first recommendation for it. The lagoon behind the reef keeps the water calm, the beachfront path is flat and car-free, and the pace is slower than the west coast.
The beachfront path is the exception to most of Bali: flat, paved and long enough to walk or cycle for kilometres without touching a road. Moving inland, it is a normal Bali street, narrow and shared with traffic.
Both sit behind a reef and suit families. Sanur has more independent restaurants and a walkable town feel; Nusa Dua is a planned resort enclave with larger hotels and less to do on foot outside them.
Usually thirty to forty-five minutes by car, depending on traffic through Denpasar.
