North Jimbaran, the bay itself or the southern end towards the Bukit: what differs along Jimbaran's coastline, and where to book.

Jimbaran Bay itself for the seafood warungs on the sand and the easiest access to the beach. North Jimbaran, near the airport, for the shortest transfer on arrival or departure. South Jimbaran if you want a foothold on the quieter side, heading towards Uluwatu.

The areas, one by one

North Jimbaran

The end of the bay closest to the airport, a matter of minutes by car, which makes it the usual choice for a first or last night. A handful of the island's well-known five-star resorts sit here.

Skip it if: you want to be near the seafood warungs, which cluster further south along the bay.

Jimbaran Bay

The middle of the bay, where rows of tables are set out on the sand every evening for grilled seafood, ordered by weight. The main reason people make a special trip to Jimbaran even if they are not staying here.

Skip it if: you want a quiet beach at sunset: this stretch is busiest exactly then.

South Jimbaran

Where Jimbaran starts climbing into the Bukit towards Uluwatu. Fewer hotels, fewer crowds, and a reasonable middle ground if you want easy airport access without staying in the busiest part of the bay.

Skip it if: you want to walk to the seafood warungs.

05 / Questions

Frequently asked

What is Jimbaran known for?

Seafood grilled on the sand at sunset, and its short distance from the airport. It is a common first and last stop on a Bali trip for exactly that reason.

Jimbaran or Nusa Dua?

Jimbaran is an open bay with an ordinary Balinese town behind it and the seafood warungs on the beach. Nusa Dua is a gated resort enclave. Jimbaran feels less separated from the rest of the island.

How far is Jimbaran from the airport?

Usually ten to twenty minutes by car, among the shortest transfers on the island, which is why it works well as a first or last night.

Is Jimbaran good for swimming?

The bay is sheltered and generally calm, better suited to swimming than the open west coast, though it is a working fishing bay rather than a resort-manicured beach.
