How we make money

The Bali Compass earns commissions on some booking links. Here is exactly how it works and what it does not change.

The short version

Some links on The Bali Compass are affiliate links. If you book a hotel, a villa, an activity or a transfer through one of them, we may receive a commission from the booking platform. You never pay more because of it. The price you see is the price the platform charges anyone.

What it does not change

A business cannot buy its way into our recommendations. We do not sell rankings, we do not accept payment for a positive review, and a partner who pays a higher commission does not get a better position. When a placement is sponsored or a partnership is commercial, it is labelled as such on the page itself.

Why we do it this way

Affiliate commissions are what allow this site to exist without paywalls and without selling your personal data to advertisers. We think it is the least intrusive way to fund independent travel research, provided it is disclosed plainly. That is what this page is for.

Prices, availability and ratings

We do not publish invented prices, ratings or reviews. Prices and availability come from the booking platform at the moment you click, which is why we write "check prices for your dates" rather than freezing a number that would be wrong two weeks later.
